Incanto - Enchantment #poesia #poetry #sea and #sky #prayer and #beauty

Bello quando il mare
tocca il cielo
e il mio sguardo
è parte dell'incanto,
uno coi colori di cristallo
scelti all'Eterno
per la Terra.
L'anima diventa
una farfalla
dalle ali enormi
fatte d'aria
lievi sul respiro
della brezza.
Forse la preghiera
è la bellezza
attraverso gli occhi
del cuore.
(Testo e immagini di Enea Grosso)

Nelle immagini: l'isola di Ouvea (Nuova Caledonia)
In the pictures: the island of Ouvea, New Caledonia

How beautiful it is
when the sea
touches the sky
and my gaze
is part of the enchantment,
at one
with the crystalline colors
chosen by the Eternal
for the Earth.
The soul becomes
a butterfly
with enormous wings
made of air,
light on the breath
of the breeze.
Perhaps prayer
is beauty
seen through the eyes
of the heart.

- il concetto, no,
non è romantico,
l'amore è un filo appeso
all'infinito

There is a moment of you
in this Greek night of stars
— the idea, no,
is not romantic,
love is a thread suspended
in infinity
from one end
of time to the other.
And nothing of love is ever lost
— the soul follows its call
and, from life to life, finds
crumbs scattered along the path.
(-In this Greek night of stars -

The image of the night that stayed in my mind throughout the brief time I spent conceiving and writing this poem is the view from my balcony at the Blue Dolphin Hotel in Syros: at dusk, the bay faded from view and the little lights of the village at my feet came on.

Arabeschi d'Estate #poesia - Summer arabesques #poems

 Adoro l'estate
la sua luce
il sole che scolpisce
negli atomi del cuore
arabeschi di felicità
- risorta dal grembo
dell'inverno,
funambolo
tra cielo e precipizio,
col respiro in bilico
tra botole di ghiaccio
e valli cosparse di fiori.
(- arabeschi d'estate -

I love summer
its light
the sun that carves
through the atoms of the heart
arabesques of happiness
— reborn from the womb
of winter,
a tightrope-walker
between sky and precipice,
with its breath poised
between ice-covered trapdoors
and valleys strewn with flowers.
(- summer arabesques -
Text and images by Enea Grosso)

A poem that came to me this evening, June 21, while I was having dinner (I quickly finished my salad so I could write it down in my notebook).
I dedicate it—with affection and a touch of irony—to my dear friend, the journalist Anna Arietti, who, at the first signs of summer, starts posting Christmas images and pictures of lit fireplaces set against snow-covered landscapes.
I’ve never managed to convey to her my love for swimming and the pool.
For now, I’ve given up, but who knows: Anna might surprise me.

Mi piacciono i giorni di pioggia #poesia - I love those days of light rain #masserano

Mi piacciono i giorni di pioggia
leggera
in cui l'estate si ferma
nell'ombra
e ascolta la verde frescura
e le gocce dal cielo sul volto
e il cuore ritrova il suo senso
nell'ansia di felicità.
Mi piacciono i giorni

The opening lines of the poem came to me at home, and the rest came to me as I ran along Via della Croce under a sky that promised rain

The second verse took shape straight after I found a white leaf with big eyes on the ground, on the steps leading up to the sculpture in the Garden of Gethsemane. I looked at other leaves, but they didn’t have eyes; they weren’t living creatures like her.

I love those days of
light rain
when summer pauses
in the shade
and listens
to the cool green air
and to raindrops
falling on my face
and the heart
rediscovers its purpose
in its longing for happiness.
I love those days
when the air
is like a feather
             a leaf
and lightness returns
to the eyes
thirsty for sunshine.

Fede incrollabile (Non c'è dolore grande - così grande) #poesia #unwavering faith

 Non c'è dolore grande
 - così grande -
da non trovare un nido
nell'immenso
in cui, dalle sue lacrime,
rinascere
 - come un seme
nella terra scura
spezza le pareti
alla sua tomba
covando nel silenzio
una corolla
che incendia di bellezza
tutto il prato
al tocco
di un raggio di sole.
(- fede incrollabile - Enea Grosso)

There is no pain so great
— so very great—
that it can't find a nest
in the immensity
where, from its tears,
it is reborn
— like a seed
in the dark earth
breaking through
 the walls of its tomb
nurturing in silence
a blossom
that sets the whole meadow
ablaze with beauty
at the touch
of a ray of sunshine.
(- unwavering faith . Enea Grosso)

#poesia - Canta come se mai dovesse scendere la notte - Sing as if night were never to fall

( Enea Grosso)

Sing as if night
were never to fall,
as if you were
the only star in your darkness,
the lone white rose
among the grasses of your garden
born amid stones and thorns.

Take the sea into your hands
as if you were
the endless void
that every drop contains.

Find your song
among the notes that the Earth
sings in her heart of fire.
(Enea Grosso)

In the images: my piano and a still from a video by Victoria Ailin Rozengurt

The middle stanza came first, as I was walking after leaving the church of San Sebastiano in Biella: I liked this imperious command to take the sea into my hands, so I jotted it down, wondering if it would ever find a beginning and an end, but without worrying too much about it. I’ve learned that poems don’t like worry and don’t like being forced: it would be like pulling a flower by its corolla to make it grow faster. They find their own way.

The answer came a few days later: as I was running through the greenery of Via della Croce in Masserano, the opening lines came all at once, followed by the  images of the star and the white rose, and then the final image of the earth and the music of its fiery heart.

e nell'inferno
d'essere il lume
che ogni demone teme,
d'essere il soffio
che incorona le montagne
con perenni ghirlande
d'argento.
È ora di vivere come il vento
al galoppo
aprendo varchi di sole
là dove l'occhio cieco
e senza amore
vaga nella notte buia.
(Testo e immagini di Enea Grosso)

It is time to fly like the wind
— fearlessly through the storm
and, in hell,
to be the light
that every demon fears,
to be the breath
that crowns the mountains
with everlasting garlands
of silver.
It is time to live like the wind
galloping
opening up gaps of sunlight
where the blind eye
without love
wanders in the dark night.

C'è bisogno di felicità #poesia . There is a need for happiness

 C'è bisogno di felicità
a secchi
come sotto un acquazzone
senza ombrello
ubriachi di splendore
come fiori nati nel deserto
da semi di fuoco.

C'è bisogno di felicità
come se la vita
fosse un gioco
di specchi
che amplifica il bene
e di ora in ora la gioia
si accumulasse
come fa la neve
nella notte muta
e al risveglio
il cuore
è in un abbaglio
di luce.

C'è bisogno di felicità
forte come il vento
che conduce
il canto
a creare nel nulla
i cieli stellati.
(Enea Grosso)

g

There is a need for happiness
by the bucketful
as if in a downpour
without an umbrella
drunk on splendor
like flowers born
in the desert
from seeds of fire.

There is a need for happiness
as if life
were a game
of mirrors
that amplifies the good
and hour by hour joy
accumulates
as snow does
in the silent night
and upon waking
the heart
is in a dazzling
glow of light.

There is a need for happiness
as strong as the wind
that carries
the chant
which creates in the void
the starry skies.
( Enea Grosso)

In these photographs by Giacomo Baltera: the Chapel of the Salus Infirmorum, the Black Madonna of Masserano (Biella), bathed in the blue light of the parish church.

This poem came to me while driving between Biella and Mosso. It required a few stops along the way to jot down the words that were pouring in and demanding my attention.
To tell the truth, the insistent “there is a  need happiness” had already knocked on my door one Sunday morning, while I was still in the process of finalizing another poem (Our Star); so I had only jotted down a few quick notes.  The voice from above lingered in the waiting room for a few days, waiting for the right moment to make itself heard more strongly and no longer accepting being sidelined by other tasks.

Hai attraversato il cielo #poesia #sitarsoul - You have crossed the sky

Stremato
guardi indietro
- non sai come
hai attraversato
il cielo
nelle notti dell'inverno
quando il buio
arriva presto
e si congela il canto
nella voce
stanca di pregare.
Hai solcato
 il tempo
per trovare
oro
nei tranelli
del mondo.
(Enea Grosso)

Exhausted,
you look back—
you hardly understand
how you managed
to cross the sky
on those winter nights
when darkness
comes early
and freezes the song
in your voice, tired
from praying.
You have been sailing
through time
you know how to find
pure gold
in the traps
of the world.
(Enea Grosso)

How did this poem come about? While sweeping the chicken coop with buckets of water. That's where the first words came to me, and  I repeated them on my mind  several times — poems require immediate attention, or they tend to slip away — while I changed the water in the bowls and gave the chickens some salad for their snack.
Then I got distracted, the words escaped me for a moment; but while washing my hair  I recalled the images, and not only did the words come back together, but others were added. I wrote them down on paper, made myself a cup of white tea, and let them sort out some details on their own.
Beware of pulling a poem by its tail: it will break. If you let it go, it almost always comes back and settles on the blank page.

Fuoco - Fire #poesia - images by #emmazavattaro

Lenta mi muovo
in un'aura di fuoco
Sono un vulcano
fatto di carne
- fiamme dal petto
 e dalle pupille,
sulla mia pelle
un manto di lava.
Brucio sterpaglie
alle mie spalle
Semino stelle
tra le scintille
sulla mia strada.
(Enea Grosso)

Immagini: EMMANUELA ZAVATTARO

I'm moving slowly
in an aura of fire.
I am a volcano
made of sheer flesh—
flames from my chest
and from my eyes,
and on my skin
a mantle of lava.
I 'm burning brush
behind my shoulders.
I'm sewing stars
among the sparks
along my path.
(Enea Grosso)

Images by EMMANUELA ZaVATTARO

Emmanuela Zavattaro shared with me that she sometimes senses the essence of people who pass by her, and some of her paintings are born from that contact.
When I was enchanted by this one (for me, the most beautiful of all those I have seen so far), published on her Instagram and Facebook pages, I did not know that this magical image suspended among the stars in the blue sky was born after an encounter with me in the corridor.
It was a special emotion, between incredulity, gratitude, and commotion.
I thank her for  depicting with such delicate mastery the purest and most beautiful part of me—the part that sways among the stars and waits for me to invite it to dwell permanently in my heart.

P.S.: Today's poem was born a few hours after another fleeting encounter with Emma in the hallway, who this time, with her artistic sensibility, perceived fire and flames—a state of my being that is anything but ethereal. I tried to find silky words to accompany these beautiful images, but nothing came. Poems do what they want...and so on this page my shadow and my light find harmony.

Briciole di felicità - Crumbs of happiness #poesia #poetry

There's a certain sadness
in this watchful being
while sifting through
crumbs of happiness
- while the Sun
is  eternal shine,
a joyful force
that invites
to be proud
of each tiny breath.

Cantare - Singing #poesia #poetry

Sei nudo
di fronte alla tua anima
Saldo
e sorretto dalla terra
Tutto ciò che sei
è il tuo cuore
- l'unico punto da cui
possa nascere un canto.
(29.03.2025 - Cantare -

You are naked
in front of your soul
Solid
and upheld by the earth
All that you are
is in your heart
- the only place where
a song can be born
